Bhartiya Janata Party on Sunday picked Bhupendra Patel as the next Gujarat's Chief Minister. He was elected the leader of the legislature party after a meeting. The meeting to decide a successor of Vijay Rupani began at 3pm in in Gandhinagar in the presence of central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Joshi. Bhupendra Patel is an MLA from the Ghatlodiya assembly constituency in Gujarat and had won by a margin of over 1,17,000 votes against Shashikant Patel from the Congress.
Earlier, he served as a municipal councillor in Ahmedabad. He has served as the chairman of Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and used to head the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation standing committee. Patel is an engineer by education. Bhupendra Patel is the BJP’s third Chief Minister in the state since Narendra Modi became Chief Minister.
