Voting across 30 assembly constituencies of West Bengal and 39 constituencies in Assam was conducted in the second phase of assembly elections..Bengal recorded 80.43% voter turnout till 6 pm in the second phase of polling in assembly elections while Assam recorded 73.03% turnout. Of the 30 seats that were voting Thursday, 23 were won by TMC in the 2016 assembly elections, five by Left Front and Congress and BJP one each.Heavy voting amidst sporadic violence, marked the second phase of polling to the West Bengal assembly,Tensions remained high in West Bengal on Thursday both the TMC and the BJP accused each other of voter suppression.The Keshpur village in Bengal's Paschim Medinipur has been very tense all day after the murder of a TMC worker Wednesday evening and later the attack on BJP’s polling agent Tanmoy Ghosh whose car was vandalised. A woman polling agent was also allegedly beaten up.
In Assam, the main electoral battle is between BJP and Congress. The Election Commission said on Thursday that the second phase of the assembly elections in Assam and Bengal conducted peacefully across 21,212 polling stations which were spread over 69 assembly seats, A personnel from of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was seen helping a senior citizen to reach a polling booth in West Bengal's Bankura to exercise his franchise.
