The Bastar Range in Chhattisgarh witnessed a historic and decisive year in 2025, registering major progress in security, peace, public welfare and development.IG P Sundarraj said decisive intelligence-led anti-Maoist operations during the year resulted in the dismantling of top Maoist leadership, large-scale recovery of weapons and the secure surrender of several senior cadres. These achievements have laid a strong foundation for lasting peace across the region.“The year 2025 has been historic and decisive, marked by significant achievements in security, peace, service, justice and development. Through precise and timely intelligence-based operations, effective area domination and strong coordination among security forces, decisive control over Naxalite activities has been established,” Sundarraj said.

Sundarraj added that the surrender and successful rehabilitation of senior Maoist cadres, along with unprecedented recovery of arms, has significantly weakened insurgent networks and created conditions conducive to long-term stability.IG noted that the improved security environment in 2025 has had a direct and positive impact on development and public welfare in the Bastar Range. Expansion of critical infrastructure, including roads, communication networks, healthcare facilities and educational institutions, has gained momentum, while government welfare schemes have reached even the most remote areas.Sundarraj said an integrated approach centred on police-public partnership, dialogue and trust has strengthened social harmony, helping Bastar transition from an atmosphere of fear and insecurity towards confidence and progress.
Looking ahead, the Bastar Range has resolved to sustain the momentum through the ‘Sankalp 2026’ initiative. The focus will be on the complete elimination of remaining Maoist networks while ensuring robust security and lasting peace.Building on the achievements of 2025, Sundarraj stated that Bastar has taken a firm resolve for 2026 to push counter-insurgency efforts to a decisive stage through well-planned strategies and sustained action. He added that rehabilitation policies for citizens and youth affected by Naxalite violence will be implemented in a humane, sensitive and inclusive manner to facilitate their integration into the mainstream of development.He further said that equal priority will be given to security, development and trust-building in 2026. Coordinated efforts with local administration and stakeholders will continue to ensure last-mile delivery of welfare schemes, expansion of infrastructure and enhanced opportunities in education, healthcare and employment.Through sustained police-public engagement, dialogue and social harmony, Bastar aims to move beyond its legacy of fear and violence and emerge as a symbol of peace, trust and inclusive development, the IG added.
