Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh on Thursday had a virtual bilateral summit. During the discussion Narendra Modi described Bangladesh is a major pillar in India’s neighbourhood first policy while Seikh Hasina called India is our true friend and thanks India for its support during 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. In his opening remarks, Modi said that it is a matter of satisfaction that there has been good cooperation between India and Bangladesh whether be it medicines or medical equipment or working with health professionals.
He said, our relationship has also continuously moved ahead in other fields apart from health sector. He said, we have reduced hurdles in land-border trade and also improved connectivity in the two countries. Modi said, we are also having good cooperation in the field of vaccine and in this regard, India will also take care of the requirements of Bangladesh.
Ms Hasina said. "I pay deep homage to the three million martyrs who laid down their lives. I pay tribute to the members of the Indian armed forces martyred in the war and to their families. I pay my gratitude to the government and the people of India who extended their whole hearted support for the cause of our nation," she said. At the Virtual Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Exhibition. The two leaders also jointly inaugurated the Chilahati-Haldibari rail link between the two countries.
