Congress will field candidates on 92 of the total 294 seats in West Bengal. The Party has releasedits first list of candidates for the eight-phased West Bengal Assembly elections. Congress is contesting the state polls in alliance with the CPM led Left front of which Furfura Sharif cleric Abbas Siddiqui's ISF is also a part. According to the list released by the party general secretary Mukul Wasnik, the party has decided to field Shui Maiti from Bhagabanpur, Manas Kumar Karmahapatra from Egra, Uttam Banerjee from Balarampur, Nepal Mahato from Baghmundi and Partha Pratim Banerjee from Purulia. All of these Assembly seats will be polled in the first phase on March 27.
In Phase-2, Sukhdeb Bera will contest from Patharpratima on a Congress ticket. Similarly, Indranil Raut has been fielded from Kakdwip, Manik Bhowmik from Moyna, Samir Roy from Kharagpur Sadar, Chiranjib Bhowmik from Sabang, Radha Rani Benerjee from Bankura, Debu Chatterjee from Bishnupur and Akshay Santra from Katulpur. Congress will contest to lay claim to a total of 92 seats, Its ally, the Left Front will field candidates on 165 seats while the recently-founded Indian Secular Front of Abbas Siddiqui managed to wrestle 37 seats as part of the seat-sharing formula.
In poll bound Tamil Nadu also the seat sharing formula between the DMK and Congress has finalized on late Saturday night. It is said that the DMK has decided to allot about 25 seats to ally Congress for next month's elections in Tamil Nadu, The Congress will fight by-poll for the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat.According to sources, thIn the 2016 assembly polls, the Congress was allotted 41 seats and it had won seven of theme.Tamil Nadu Congress had asked for at least 30 seats while the DMK said it would only spare 24, leading to a stalemate. The DMK has allotted three seats to the Indian Union Muslim League and two to Manithaneya Makkal Katchi. Tamil Nadu will see a contest mostly between the ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK while many will also keep their eyes peeled for how actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan's new party Makkal Needhi Maiam fares.
