Delhi Regional Security Dialogue, which is being convened by India over the Afghanistan situation,began on Wednesday. In his opening remark National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has said that the recent developments in Afghanistan have important implications not only for the people of that country but also for its neighbours and the region. He said that India is keenly watching developments in Afghanistan and called for close consultations, greater cooperation and interaction among the regional countries.Doval said that he is confident that "deliberations will be productive, useful and will contribute to help people of Afghanistan and enhance or collective security".
The Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan is being attended by security czars of Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. They will explore framing up a common app Pakistan and China are not attending the dialogue on Afghanistan hosted by Delhi.
This is the first-of-its-kind dialogue that focuses on security-related issues and is distinct from foreign ministry led talks. This is also the highest number of countries taking part in this format. Earlier, Iran had hosted dialogues in a similar format.roach for practical cooperation in confronting the threats of terrorism, radicalisation and drug trafficking after the Taliban took control of the landlocked nation. Two earlier meetings in this format were hosted by Iran in 2018 and 2019. The third meeting in India could not be held earlier due to the pandemic. India has traditionally enjoyed close and friendly ties with the people of Afghanistan and has called for a unified international response to address the security and humanitarian challenges facing Afghanistan. The Dialogue is a step in that direction.
