An earthquake of 4.1 magnitude jolted Gujarat’s Kutch district in the wee hours of Saturday, triggering panic among residents, though no casualties or damage to property were reported, officials said.According to the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), the tremor was recorded at 1.22 am, with its epicentre located about 55 km north-northeast (NNE) of Khavda in Kutch district.A district disaster management official confirmed that there were no reports of loss of life or damage to property following the quake.
Kutch district falls under a “very high risk” seismic zone, and low-intensity earthquakes are frequently reported in the region. The district has a long history of seismic activity, most notably the devastating earthquake of January 26, 2001. The 7.6 magnitude quake, with its epicentre near Bhachau in Kutch, was the third-largest and second-most destructive earthquake in India over the past two centuries. It claimed the lives of around 13,800 people and caused widespread destruction across the region.
