India asks Hyundai Motor to be more forceful in unequivocal apology

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday summoned the South Korean envoy over Hyundai Pakistan's post on social media supporting Pakistan's Kashmir Solidarity Day. The ministry sought “explanation” from Ambassador Chang Jae-Bok over the social media post put out by Hyundai Pakistan on February 5 - Pakistan’s “so called” Kashmir Solidarity Day. Correspondingly, Indian envoy in Seoul Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan also engaged officials at Hyundai headquarters. The official spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, in a statement said India's strong displeasure on the unacceptable social media post by Hyundai Pakistan was conveyed to the Indian Ambassador in Seoul.Foreign Minister of Republic of Korea Chung Eui-yong also called External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar and conveyed that “they regretted the offence caused to the people and Government of India by the social media post.”

The Government has asked the Hyundai Motor Company to be more forceful in unequivocal apology on a social media posts from the account of its Pakistan partner on Kashmir. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi Tuesday raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour. Responding to it, Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal said, the issue has been raised with both the government there and the company. He said, the company has already issued clarification. In a social media post, Hyundai's Pakistan partner had expressed solidarity for separatists in Kashmir.
