Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has significantly slashed subscription fees in India across all tiers—Basic, Premium, and Premium Plus—by up to 48%, making its services more affordable for Indian users. The move comes amid growing competition and user sensitivity to pricing in emerging markets.According to updates posted on the company’s portal, the most notable reduction is for Premium subscriptions via mobile apps, which have dropped by about 48% to Rs470 per month, down from the earlier Rs900. The charges for mobile app users are typically higher due to platform service fees by app stores.
On the web platform, the Premium subscription fee has been cut by around 34%, now priced at RS427 per month, compared to Rs650 previously. Premium subscribers receive a verified checkmark and access to longer posts and additional engagement tools. The Basic subscription plan has also seen a 30% drop in monthly rates to Rs170, reduced from Rs243.75. This plan allows users to edit posts, write longer posts, enjoy background video playback, and download videos. The annual Basic plan now costs Rs1,700, down from Rs2,590.48, reflecting a 34% price cut.X has also reduced the cost of its Premium Plus subscription, which offers an ad-free experience, access to SuperGrok with Grok 4, and the ability to write full articles. The web-based Premium Plus plan is now available for Rs2,570, about 26% less than the previous Rs3,470. On mobile, the price has dropped to Rs3,000, compared to the earlier rate of approximately Rs5,100.
