US President Donald Trump said he was not immediately considering secondary sanctions on Russia and its trade partners. However, Trump asserted that he might have to reconsider it in "2-3 weeks". In an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity, Trump softened his stance on Russia after talks with President Putin over the Ukraine war, saying the Alaska summit "went well", rating it a "10/10".Just days before the Alaska summit, Trump had asserted that the punitive tariffs imposed on India had influenced Russia's decision to seek a meeting with Trump as Moscow was losing its "second-largest customer".

Data intelligence firm Kpler Ltd reported Russian crude is being offered to Indian buyers at lower prices as European Union sanctions and threats of penalties from the US cloud the demand outlook, Bloomberg reported. India became the largest customer of Russian oil in 2022.On Thursday, Indian Oil Corporation chairman AS Sahney said India has not halted oil purchases from Russia and continues to buy solely on the basis of economic considerations.
