In Pakistan, the much awaited no-confidence motion agianst prime minister Imran Khan was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday. PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said. A total of 86 Members of NationalAssembly from the Opposition have signed the motion. As per rules 68 MNAs need to sign the petition and the Speaker has 3-7 days to call the session for voting, According to Dawn, PPP leader Naveed Qamar said the motion, requisitioning a National Assembly session, had signatures of more than 100 lawmakers. According to NA rules, in order for a session to be requisitioned to vote on a no-confidence motion, signatures from at least 68 MNAs are required.In order to make the no-confidence motion against the prime minister successful, the joint opposition requires the support of 172 MNAs.
Khan is heading a coalition government and he can be removed if some of the partners decide to switch sides, which is not unusual in parliamentary democracies. Reacting to the development, Khan said the country’s powerful army was with him and he was confident that the government was not going anywhere. “After this, nothing will happen against this government till 2028, Opposition will face a humiliating defeat,” the prime minister said. Opposition parties blame Khan’s government for uncontrolled inflation that has broken the back of poor people of the country, while Khan accuses them of trying to remove as he was not willing to condone the alleged corruption by the leading opposition leaders.
