India and Tajikistan reaffirmed their shared resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations during the fifth meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism held in Dushanbe on Wednesday.According to agency reports, the meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Sherali Jonon, Head of the Department of Asia-Pacific Countries at Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officials from relevant ministries and agencies of both countries also participated in the discussions.
During the dialogue, both sides reviewed the evolving global and regional terrorism landscape and exchanged views on emerging security challenges, including countering violent extremism and radicalisation, combating terror financing, preventing the misuse of technology by terrorist organisations, drug trafficking and the movement of terrorists across borders.According to the MEA, India and Tajikistan strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. The two countries also reiterated their condemnation of the terrorist attack on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, and the terror incident near New Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, 2025.The two sides called for coordinated international action against terrorists and terrorist groups, including those designated under the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.

Recognising the increasing complexity of security threats, India and Tajikistan discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through enhanced intelligence and information sharing, capacity building, training programmes and exchange of best practices in counter-terrorism operations.The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation at multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS) and the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG).Both sides agreed that the next meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism will be held in India on a mutually convenient date.
