India ranks seventh globally in AI innovation, tops workforce usage

India has secured the seventh position in the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation race, reflecting the country’s rapid strides in the field. According to a study by Linkee, an AI-powered link-building automation software firm, India achieved a score of 24, supported by the development of 29 notable AI models and AI-related investments worth $7.25 billion. The report highlights India’s exceptional strength in workforce adoption, with 92% of workers integrating AI tools into their daily tasks — the highest rate among the top 10 nations. However, India lags in AI-related job openings, with only eight vacancies per one million people, though this figure remains above South Korea’s four.
The United States dominates the global AI innovation landscape with a top score of 99, driven by 561 AI models and $77.6 billion in investments. Switzerland follows with a score of 66, thanks to its leadership in AI patents, while South Korea (54), China (52), Singapore (32), and Canada (29) round out the top six. The United Kingdom comes in eighth, with Australia and Italy ranking ninth and tenth respectively.Vahan Poghosyan, CEO of Linkee, underscored the broader significance of AI innovation beyond funding and patents. “The global AI race isn’t just about patents or funding; it reflects which countries are shaping the future of work, innovation, and daily life. Where AI is adopted thoughtfully, it’s creating new opportunities, changing industries, and even redefining what skills matter,” Poghosyan said. He added that tracking these developments is essential for societies preparing for the next decade of transformation.
In terms of regional strengths, China has produced 196 notable AI models alongside $9 billion in investments, with 91% workforce adoption. Canada matches China in AI patents per capita and has rolled out 94 AI models, while offering a comparatively strong job market with 72 AI-related openings per million people. Singapore stands out for AI employment, boasting 216 openings per million residents despite relatively smaller investments of $1.5 billion. The study estimates that the global AI market, valued at over €130 billion today, is on track to expand nearly fifteen-fold, reaching close to €1.9 trillion by 2030.India’s positioning in the top 10 underscores its growing role in shaping the AI future, especially through rapid workforce adoption. However, experts note that sustained growth will require deeper investments in patents, innovation, and job creation to complement its strong adoption rate.
