Trump spoiled India ties due to ego, money from Pakistan: EX- Envoy

Former US envoy to Japan Rahm Emanuel, a Democrat, said that US President Donald Trump spoiled India ties due to his ego and said that his son received money from Pakistan. Emanuel said that the Republican threw away 40 years’ worth of efforts as the US tried to work with India as a counterweight to China.“He threw it all away because Modi would not say that the President deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for the ceasefire (with Pakistan)," Emanuel told news outlet MeidasTouch. He claimed, the country was paying both his son and Trump aide Steve Witkoff’s son. The comment appeared to reference Zach Witkoff, co-founder of a firm that struck a deal with the Pakistan Crypto Council in April 2025 to promote digital financial transactions. Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, along with his son-in-law Jared Kushner, allegedly hold stakes in the company.

Rahm Emanuel, according to a Wall Street Journal report, could be running for the US President come 2028. The report based on a visit by the former Democratic congressman and White House chief of staff at a Democratic base in Iowa’s Des Moines said that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom are also in the fray.
