TMC is hostile to the poor, Dalits, tribals and women of Bengal: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government, calling it 'nirmam' (cruel) and corrupt, and claiming that the people of the state are crying out for change. Addressing a rally in  Alipurduar on Thursday, Modi termed the violence in Murshidabad and Malda a symbol of her government's "cruelty and indifference". Modi  claimed that the people of Bengal have lost faith in the Trinamool Congress government. "The people here now have only the court to rely on. That's why the whole of Bengal is saying, 'We don't want a ruthless government!'" PM Modi stated. He further accused the ruling party of rampant corruption and touched on the teacher recruitment scam.
Bengal, the PM said, was dogged by several crises simultaneously. "We have a crisis of violence and anarchy spreading in society. The second crisis is the safety of our mothers and sisters, who are being subjected to heinous crimes. The third is the extreme despair and rampant unemployment spreading among the youth. The fourth crisis is the continuously declining trust in the system, and the fifth is the selfish politics of the ruling party, which steals the rights of the poor," he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of city city-based gas distribution project at Alipurduar parade ground in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. The 1017 crore rupees project will benefit the people of Alipurduar and Coochbehar districts of West Bengal. The Prime Minister said the Indian economy is progressing towards a gas-based economy. There will be no need for gas cylinders in the households. Cooking LPG will be distributed directly to the kitchen through a gas distribution pipeline. The Prime Minister stresses that environmental pollution will be less in future.
The ruling Trinamool Congress is already under fire following a fact-finding report by a Calcutta High Court-appointed committee, which blamed local leaders, including an MLA and a councillor, for the communal riots in Murshidabad set off by anti-Waqf law protests. The report also slammed the bengal Police for remaining inactive during the violence.
