Uttarakhand CM announces Rs 5 lakh immediate aid for Dharali victims

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced an immediate assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed and those who lost their homes in the Dharali disaster. The chief minister also announced the formation of a three-member committee for rehabilitation, overall revival, and strengthening of sustainable livelihood of villagers affected by the disaster. Chaired by Secretary (Revenue), the committee will submit its preliminary report to the government within a week.

According to official data, more than 1000 people have been evacuated from parts of the disaster-hit Dharali area that are still cut off following mudslide and flash floods on Tuesday. The district administration has confirmed four deaths and 49 people have been missing since the disaster. Four helicopters of Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Authority have begun making sorties on the fifth day of rescue operations to rescue people taking shelter in various locations of the district.

As per information, all the injured people have been shifted to hospitals and Connectivity was completely destroyed in Harsil, was restored Friday. CM Dhami announced that the government have decided to provide affected families with rations for the next six months... A three-member committee is being formed under the chairmanship of the Revenue Secretary... They will see how the affected family can be rehabilitated and the extent of the loss incurred... We will also provide a relief package to those in need," he said.

Meanwhile, four persons have been booked by Uttarakhand Police for their objectionable posts related to the Dharali disaster on Facebook with the intention to stoke hatred between communities. Four FIRs were lodged at the Kotwali police station here on Friday in connection with the incident, sub-inspector Vikki Tamta said on Saturday. One of the accused uploaded two photographs of Dharali before and after the flash floods on his Facebook account and wrote, "Disaster in Dharali village.. nature's bulldozer", Tamta said.
