eKYC registration begins for Char Dham, Hemkund Sahib Yatra

In a significant step towards modernizing the pilgrimage experience, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has launched Aadhaar Authentication and eKYC for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Electronics & IT on Wednesday. This initiative is expected to streamline the registration process, making it faster and more secure for the pilgrims embarking on these sacred journeys. By integrating Aadhaar-based online registration, the authorities aim to reduce the time taken for registration, monitor pilgrim movements efficiently, and enhance preparedness to prevent overcrowding at key pilgrimage sites. This system will also aid in improving the dissemination of weather-related updates, especially in the high-altitude regions that are prone to unpredictable conditions.
The registration for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025 commenced on March 20, and over 750,000 pilgrims have already utilized the Aadhaar-based online registration facility. This digital initiative is being supported by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which is working closely with state governments to implement innovative solutions aimed at improving the ease of living for citizens. Pilgrims can register through the official portal (registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in) or via the “Tourist Care Uttarakhand” mobile app, which is equipped with Aadhaar-linked eKYC services. In addition to online registration, the option for offline registration at designated centers remains available.
This move is expected to prevent duplicate registrations, ensuring that more pilgrims can undertake the Yatra without administrative hurdles. Aadhaar-based digital verification not only expedites the registration process but also reduces paperwork, making the experience smoother for all involved. Moreover, linking the registration to Aadhaar will help authorities better plan and manage accommodations, transport, food, and medical services according to the actual number of pilgrims registered. This can prevent wastage of resources and ensure that critical needs, such as emergency services, are efficiently addressed through improved coordination between pilgrims and authorities.
