Tirupati laddoo row: Centre seeks report, Jagan says no violation

The row over the alleged contamination of laddoos at Tirupati temple escalated on Friday, with the central government seeking a report on the matter, and former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy rejecting the N Chandrababu Naidu government's allegations of adulteration during his tenure.The former Chief Minister said that he will be writing to the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India explaining “how Chandrababu Naidu twisted the facts and why action should be taken against him”.

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said, he has spoken to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the issue and has sought a report in this regard. He said that the Government would examine the matter and take suitable action.
Union  Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi said, the issue of the presence of alleged animal fat in Tirupati temple’s laddus,is a serious matter. Talking to the media, Joshi said, there should be a detailed inquiry in the matter and the guilty should be punished. Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan said that anyone involved in adulteration of food will not be spared.The Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food, a laboratory of the National Dairy Development Board has confirmed the presence of animal fat in the ghee used in the making of laddus.
The Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Shyamala Rao, stated that after Chief Minister Naidu raised the issue earlier, multiple tests were conducted, which revealed contamination across several ingredients. He described the lab reports as “shocking”. He said that the ghee suppliers took advantage of lack of in-house testing facilities.
The Tirupati temple management set up a four-member committee to monitor the quality of ghee procured by the shrine. The committee, comprising dairy experts, is expected to submit its report within a week and propose guidelines for ghee procurement.Andhra Pradesh deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, in a social media post, said he was deeply disturbed by the alleged findings of animal fat mixed in Tirupati temple 'prasadam' (consecrated food), and called for the creation of a national-level body to look into the issues about temples.

Tirupati laddoos' controversy reached the Supreme Court with a lawyer filing a petition alleging that the act violates fundamental Hindu religious customs.In a letter petition sent to CJI,lawyer Satyam Singh has said the allegations on the prasad at the temple, managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), have hurt the sentiments of devotees and the alleged act of using animal fat in the laddoos violates Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion, including the right to practice religious customs.
