Storm Fengal to cross the coast close to Puducherry on Saturday

The cyclonic storm Fengal is likely to make landfall close to Puducherry with wind speeds up to 90 kmph on Saturday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department said. Puducherry District Collector A Kulothungan held discussions with the officials of PWD, local administration, police and other line departments and reviewed the situation. All schools and Colleges will remain close on Saturday.Cyclone Fengal, which intensified into a cyclonic storm on November 29, is predicted to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry.
As Cyclone Fengal intensifies over the Bay of Bengal and heads towards landfall near Puducherry, Tamil Nadu authorities have issued urgent advisories and implemented key safety measures. The approaching storm, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds, has led the state government to close schools and colleges in several districts, halt public transport services, and request that IT companies implement work-from-home protocols.
As part of its precautionary measures, the Tamil Nadu government has also suspended public transport services on key roads, including the East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), during the afternoon of November 30. These routes, which run close to the coastline, will be temporarily closed to mitigate the risks posed by the cyclonic storm, particularly the strong winds and heavy rains expected to accompany it.
Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been mobilised in affected districts to provide assistance.On December 1, the cyclone's influence will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to isolated areas in interior Tamil Nadu. The storm is expected to continue affecting the region through December 3, with additional heavy rainfall warnings in place.
