Patna HC directs Cong to take off AI video of PM, his late mother

The Patna High Court directed the removal of the allegedly derogatory AI-generated video posted by the Bihar Congress, which features Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, from all social media platforms. A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice PB Bajanthri and Justice Alok Kumar Sinha on Wednesday passed the order directing the intermediaries (social media) to stop the circulation of the video, citing that the right to privacy and dignity were part of the fundamental rights of a person. The Bench said the video violates the fundamental right of a person, citing the Supreme Court judgments like KS Puttaswamy, NALSA Foundation and Subramanian Swamy case.

A petition filed by advocate Vivekanand Singh and others, had called the video a "defamatory publication" and violative of restraints placed on political parties under the Representation of the People Act.In the petition, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Union government and the Election Commission were also named as respondents. EC's counsel Siddharth Prasad said “the court has also issued notices to Facebook, Twitter and Google, directing them to file their reply by the next date of hearing". The high court is likely to mention the next date in the order sheet, which would be uploaded on its website.
