The Odisha Cabinet on Monday recommended Governor Raghubar Das for dissolution of the 16th legislative assembly., a day ahead of the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls.The cabinet informed the governor about completion of the BJD government’s tenure and recommended dissolution of the assembly before the counting exercise, an official said.According to the constitutional provision, the state cabinet should pass a resolution to dissolve the assembly after the declaration of election results.
The last cabinet meeting of the fifth term of the BJD government was held on virtual mode. The main agenda of the cabinet meeting was to recommend the dissolution of Legislative Assembly after the election process is over.The assembly will stand dissolved only after approval and notification of the Governor.Election for the 147-member Assembly was held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in four phases between May 13 and June 1 in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik dissolved the seventh assembly on Sunday, paving the way for the constitution of the eighth assembly following the declaration of results, a statement said. Under Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution, the governor has accepted the cabinet's advise and signed the order to dissolve the seventh state assembly with immediate effect, the statement issued by the Raj Bhavan said.
