MP: Car with 3 cops falls into river in Ujjain, one body found

In Madhya Pradesh, a car carrying three police personnel plunged into the swollen Kshipra river after rains in Ujjain district after skidding off a bridge, officials said on Sunday. The incident took place at around 9 pm on Saturday, they said, adding the body of Ashok Sharma was later recovered while efforts were on to find the other two personnel.The other two missing personnel are Sub-Inspector Madanlal and Constable Arti Pal. All three were travelling from Ujjain to Nagda when the accident occurred. The police personnel, from Unhel police station, about 50 km from the district headquarters, were going to investigate the case of a missing woman, according to the officials.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Sharma, the officers had left Ujjain for Chintaman to investigate a missing woman case from Guradiya Sanga village. Their vehicle reportedly fell from a bridge while they were driving from Juna Somwariya towards Badnagar. The bridge stands about 12 feet above the river. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

Teams from the NDRF, SDRF and Home Guard have been engaged in the search, deploying boats and drones to locate the submerged car. The operation resumed at 6 am on Sunday morning. Despite intensive efforts, locating the vehicle has proved difficult. Strong river currents and murky water have limited visibility and slowed progress.
