In Maharashtra, Uddhav sena leader Aditya Thakarey will face Milind Deora of CM Shinde' Shiv Sena from Worli assembly seat. The Shinde Sena had confirmed Deora's candidature, a day after Mr Thackeray's party said he would defend his seat.Aditya holds the Worli seat - a Shiv Sena stronghold. Deora tweeted on Friday, "Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji believes that justice for Worli and Worlikars is long overdue. Together, we're paving the way forward and will share our vision soon. It’s Worli NOW!
Deora, who joined the Shiv Sena in January, is a Rajya Sabha MP and was given the responsibility of Worli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Shinde-led party believes that Deora can hold sway in Worli and cater to middle-class Maharashtrians, fishermen and the affluent section who reside in the constituency, according to sources.
The Shiv Sena is part of the Mahayuti alliance, which comprises the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have three main parties - Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP headed by Sharad Pawar. The 2019 election was won by the BJP-Sena alliance but that fell apart, spectacularly, after the two failed to agree a power-share deal. Uddhav Thackeray then led the Sena into an alliance with the Congress and the NCP and that angered some of his party leaders. Elections for 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on November 20. Counting of votes will take place on November 23.
