Outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday categorically ruled out stepping down after her party’s electoral setback, declaring, “There is no question of my resignation. I will not resign.” Insisting that “we did not lose the election”, Banerjee claimed the verdict was not a genuine public mandate but the result of a “conspiracy”. Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Mamata claimed the elections were not conducted fairly, accused the BJP of undue interference and using the central forces to ‘capture’ the elections 'forecefully', while asserting that her party would challenge the results and continue its political fight. Banerjee has already alleged that 100 seats have been stolen in this election. Today, she accused the government and the Election Commission being complicit. Putting the onus on the Election Commission , she accused the poll body of playing "nasty games". The real rival, she said, was the poll panel and not the BJP.
