IMD forecasts heavy rainfall over South Bengal, Nainital & Bageshwar

The monsoon continues to remain active across Uttarakhand, with the Met Department forecasting heavy rainfall in several districts on Friday. According to the Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, most parts of the state are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the districts of Nainital and Bageshwar. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts. The hilly regions may also experience lightning, intense to very intense spells of rain, and strong winds. The department has advised people to remain alert in vulnerable areas and exercise caution while travelling.
Due to a low-pressure formation over the north-west Bay of Bengal and over the adjacent north Odisha and West Bengal coasts, the IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall over the districts of south Bengal from Friday. The Alipore weather office of IMD in Kolkata predicted heavy rainfall over the coastal districts of East Medinipur and South 24 Parganas districts. Kolkata and adjoining districts would get sporadic rainfall also. Due to rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for five days. On the other hand, districts of north Bengal may experience a lesser amount of rainfall for the coming five days.
IMD issues red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha and parts of Madhya Pradesh till Saturday. In Gujarat, Navsari lashed by extremely heavy downpour; Nearly 8 inches rain in just 2 hours recorded.
