Gujarat Assembly monsoon session begins, 9 bills on agenda

The three-day monsoon session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly commenced in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, with the government set to introduce several bills covering agriculture, land reforms, education, taxation and ease of doing business.
Chief Minister and Leader of the House Bhupendra Patel moved condolence motions on the opening day to pay tribute to former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, former ministers Hemaben Acharya and Ishwarsinh Chavda, and other departed members. The House also paid tribute to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash. Patel later unveiled a portrait of late Vijay Rupani at the Assembly podium and recalled his contribution to Gujarat’s development.
The session began with Question Hour, during which MLAs raised issues concerning General Administration, Revenue, Narmada, Water Resources, Energy, Women and Child Welfare, Roads and Buildings and other departments.

The government is scheduled to present nine bills during the session. These include the Gujarat Agricultural Universities (Amendment) Bill, Gujarat Natural Farming Science University (Amendment) Bill, Gujarat Rent Bill, Gujarat Livestock Feed, Poultry Feed and Mineral Mixture Bill, Gujarat Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, Gujarat Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Agricultural Holdings (Amendment) Bill, Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, Gujarat Ease of Doing Business Bill and Gujarat Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill.
Among the key proposed reforms is an amendment to the Shops and Establishments Act, which would allow shops, malls, restaurants, hotels, cafes, garages and other commercial establishments to operate round the clock, subject to safety and other regulatory requirements.The government also plans measures to simplify registration through self-declaration, streamline registration of doctors from other states and facilitate faster mutation entries for undisputed land transactions.
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs staged a sit-in protest at Satyagraha Chhavani ahead of the Assembly proceedings, raising issues concerning the state government. AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava also reached the Assembly.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the government was ready to address issues raised by legislators and ensure constructive discussions during the three-day session.
