HC orders FIR against MP minister over remarks on Col Sofiya Qureshi

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered an FIR against state minister and BJP leader Vijay Shah over his controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, which has sparked a wave of condemnation, a division bench of Justice Atul Shridharan on Wednesday given strict orders to the Director General of Police to immediately file an FIR against the minister. The court said that the FIR should be filed under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Congress' Madhya Pradesh unit said that they have already filed an FIR and demanded the minister's dismissal.Vijay Shah, while speaking at a government event on Tuesday, said that the Prime Minister had sent a “sister from the same community” as those in Pakistan to avenge the April 22 terror strike in Kashmir’s Pahalgam.The comments were condemned by the army veterans. Vijay Shah initially said his comments were reported out of context, then offered to apologise. "Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is more important than my sister to me because she rose above caste and community and took revenge. I did not intend any offence. Still, if anyone felt bad, I apologise not once but ten times," he had said.The opposition parties slammed the BJP over the controversial remarks made by Minister Vijay Shah and have questioned the party's silence on the matter. Congress secretary Jairam Ramesh has questioned why the Prime Minister has not yet sacked the minister. Meanwhile, following the order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has given instructions to take action regarding the statement of Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah.
