Sitharaman meets UK Finance Minister Healey on G20 meet sidelines

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting.
The Finance Ministry said in a post on X that Sitharaman and Healey held a brief “brush aside” meeting on the margins of the G20 gathering.


The meeting comes as India and the United Kingdom continue to deepen their economic and financial engagement, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, financial services and broader global economic issues.Sitharaman is currently on a six-day visit to the US from August 29 to September 2, as part of a broader nine-day overseas tour that began in Canada. She arrived in Asheville to attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting, being hosted by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The two-day G20 meeting is taking place against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Europe, with global economic growth, financial stability and other key international economic challenges expected to remain central to discussions.Healey was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer after Andy Burnham became Britain's prime minister last month.
Earlier on Monday, Sitharaman also met 3M Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Brown on the sidelines of the G20 FMCBG meeting. Discussions focused on strengthening and deepening the multinational company's engagement with India.The G20 finance meeting brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from the world's major economies to discuss issues affecting the global economy and financial system.
