Graffiti threatening 'Demolition' of Jagannath temple found in Puri

Puri police have launched an investigation after two graffiti threatening to “demolish” the 12th-century Jagannath Temple were found on the wall of a small temple near the shrine on Wednesday, triggering outrage among devotees,according to information.The threats, written in Odia, appeared on the wall of Maa Budhi Thakurani’s temple at Bali Sahi, warning that “terrorists will demolish the Srimandir” and urging the recipient to “call me, or else there will be destruction.” Several phone numbers, along with words like “PM Modi” and “Delhi,” were also written on the wall, residents said. As per reports, the police has detained one person in the case, who is said to be "mentally unstable."Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra, who inspected the site, said police have taken the matter “very seriously” and are forming teams to track down those responsible. “We have got some information, and CCTV footage is being examined. It appears the graffiti was written late Tuesday night,” Mishra said.Police have tightened security around the temple, deployed guards, and installed additional surveillance cameras. The motive behind the threats is yet to be established, but the investigation is underway on a “war footing,” the SP added.
