WB:Voters submitting wrong documents to be excluded from final list

The names of the voters who submitted documents other than those specified by the Election Commission during the Special Intensive Revision hearing process in West Bengal will be excluded from the final list. The Commission has also prepared a separate list of concerned Election Officers who accepted such documents and uploaded them online. According to Commission sources, if evidence of negligence in duty or violation of rules is found against those officers, legal action will be taken. As per the list published by the Election Commission, many voters summoned to the hearings submitted documents different from the prescribed ones. Already, the number of such voters has crossed several lakhs.
Another controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the emergence of a purportedly fraudulent list containing over 5,000 names marked as “Not Indian citizens.” The document, which bears no official stamp or signature, is alleged by local officials to have been circulated on the instructions of an Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.
As per local media report, 3.5 LAKH voters SKIP SIR hearings in Bengal. It is said that out of 31.68 lakh voters flagged in SIR, nearly 3.5 lakh failed to appear despite official notices. These names were missing from the 2002 electoral rolls.
West Bengal State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya has catagorically said that the Bharatiya Janta party has not taken up the job of working as a contractor for the Election Commission in West Bengal. "Our stand is absolutely clear: no SIR and no Vote. It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to correct the voter's list at the right time," he said.
