Criminals spreading misinformation, panel to probe Zubeen’s death: CM

Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Friday that a judicial commission will be formed to probe the death of singer Zubeen Garg, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax (I-T) Department likely to join the Assam Police in investigating alleged organised financial crimes by the singer’s event manager, Shyamkanu Mahanta, who has been named an accused in the death of Garg. The Assam CM said that the judicial commission will be headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Guwahati High Court. He also asked people to come forward with any information related to Garg’s death. "Now, we request all the people who have any information or videos related to Zubeen Garg’s death to come forward and depose in front of the commission,” he stated. Sarma alleged that there is a group of people who are misusing the Zubeen Case for political gains by spreading misinformation. Sarma also said the government had handed over the report of the post-mortem examination done in Singapore to Zubeen’s wife, Garima, on Thursday. The CM also asked members of the Assam Association of Singapore, who were accompanying the singer on the day of his death, to come forward and give their statement, adding that otherwise, the government will have to take action against them.
