'Changed my room, not house': Madan Mitra quits Mamata's TMC

In West Bengal,veteran Trinamool leader and former minister Madan Mitra joined the rebel camp. Mitra, once seen as Mamata's foremost trusted lieutenant who stood beside Mamata Banerjee when she broke away from the Congress, resigned from all posts in the Trinamool.The development comes a day after the Enforcement Directorate summoned the Trinamool MLA's wife and his two sons for questioning in connection with its money laundering probe into the alleged municipal recruitment scam.Speaking to reporters, Mitra, who represents the Kamarhati seat in the West Bengal assembly, said the Trinamool has become a "fragmented" party. "I have only changed my room, not my house. I am very much in the TMC," he told reporters after joining the rebel camp. Mitra squarely blamed Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee for his move and the Trinamool's mess.

His resignation comes two weeks after Mamata Banerjee made him the general secretary following the party's assembly election debacle in May. The shock exit also comes days after Chandrima Bhattacharya, Trinamool's Bengal president, stepped down from her position. Mitra was the transport minister in the Mamata Cabinet.
