Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday laid the foundation stones for 3 lakh rural houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 in Burripalem, Guntur district, according to agency reports.
The houses were sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh following a request from the state government and are aimed at accelerating rural housing for poor families.The programme also marked the launch of a pilot project using 3D concrete-printing technology to construct houses in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem. The initiative is being implemented jointly by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, CSIR-CBRI Roorkee and the Andhra Pradesh government.

The pilot project will assess the speed, quality and cost-effectiveness of 3D printing for rural housing. The houses will have an area of around 25 square metres, with toilets and larger accessible units also planned. The estimated cost of the project is around RS13.93 crore.The government said 5.5 lakh houses have been handed over since the coalition government came to power, while construction is underway on another 4.2 lakh houses, with the target of completing them by March next year.
Speaking at the event, Chouhan praised Naidu’s leadership and said the Centre would support the state’s goal of providing houses to all eligible poor families. He said 3 lakh houses had been sanctioned in the first phase following Naidu’s request and assured that another 3 lakh houses would be sanctioned after their completion.

Chouhan also praised the use of 3D concrete-printing technology in Andhra Pradesh, saying it could serve as a model for reducing construction time and costs in rural housing.He highlighted the Centre-state partnership in Andhra Pradesh’s development and said the government was working on initiatives related to technology, women’s welfare and farmers’ incomes.Chouhan said the Centre would also support the completion of the Polavaram project and highlighted the expansion of the Lakhpati Didi programme in the state.
