MP to launch bus service Sep 25, eyes 75% village connectivity by 2030

Madhya Pradesh will launch its new state-wide bus service, Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva, on September 25, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently stated, as the government aims to expand public transport and improve connectivity between villages, towns and cities.Yadav made the announcement while inaugurating the two-day Passenger Transport Vision Summit 2026 at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore. The government aims to connect 75% of villages with bus services by 2030.
According to agency reports, the state has a road network of about 5 lakh km and could support more than 15,000 buses, Yadav said. Transport Secretary Manish Singh said route surveys have been completed across all 55 districts, with plans for around 150 city routes, 450 intercity routes and 436 interstate routes. The service will operate under a public-private partnership model, with Madhya Pradesh Yatri Parivahan and Infrastructure Limited (MPYPIL) providing the institutional framework for bus operations, infrastructure and technology systems.
The proposed network will use Intelligent Transport Management Systems for real-time monitoring. Buses are expected to have GPS, CCTV cameras and panic buttons, while digital systems will provide tracking and passenger information. The broader objective, the transport department said, is to ensure passengers get “the right bus, the right route and the right time”.
Transport and School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh said the government aims to promote cleaner mobility while extending public transport to rural areas. Electric and CNG buses are expected to form a major part of the new fleet.Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said electric buses could help avoid more than 70,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.Eka Mobility founder and chairman Sudhir Mehta said the company is setting up its fourth plant in Madhya Pradesh at Pithampur to manufacture electric buses. The facility, completed in 14 months, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5,000 electric buses.
MPYPIL has signed an agreement with Rapido to improve connectivity between public transport hubs and passengers’ starting or ending points. The partnership will integrate information on bus stands, bus stops and metro stations with Rapido’s technology platform and will initially be piloted in Bhopal and Indore. It also includes the women-operated Rapido Pink bike-taxi service to support more inclusive last-mile mobility.Yadav urged private bus operators, manufacturers, technology companies and other industry stakeholders to participate in expanding the state’s public transport network. He said the revival of a state-wide bus service would create employment and business opportunities while supporting Madhya Pradesh’s growing tourism and pilgrimage economy.
According to the state government, more than 200 million tourists visit Madhya Pradesh annually. Yadav also said Ujjain could receive around 140 million devotees this year, underlining the need for better connectivity.Yadav also launched the MP Mobility Innovation Challenge 2026, seeking technology-based solutions to transport-related challenges. The challenge will focus on artificial intelligence and data-led mobility, financial and operational sustainability, inclusive transport, infrastructure and last-mile connectivity, and green mobility. The two-day summit, held on September 11 and 12, brought together more than 2,000 delegates and around 100 industry experts, including bus manufacturers, technology companies, financial institutions, energy firms and private operators. The government said discussions at the summit will contribute to a roadmap for PPP-based bus operations, modern transport infrastructure and IT-enabled monitoring of services.
