Five people have been arrested in connection with the death of a 31-year-old migrant labourer from Jharkhand who was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of theft near Walayar in Kerala, police said on Friday.The arrests were formally recorded late on Thursday night, and all the accused have been booked for murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, an officer from the Walayar police station said.
The deceased has been identified as Ramnarayan Bhayar, who was working as a labourer in the Walayar area. According to police, Bhayar was attacked by a group of men on Wednesday evening after he was accused of being involved in a theft at Kizhakeattappallam near Walayar.As per the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place before 7.40 pm. Bhayar, who sustained severe injuries in the assault, was rushed to the Palakkad District Government Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.Police said a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the incident and to determine the individual roles of the accused.
