Clashes at Udaipur Palace gates between two groups of Royal family

In Rajasthan, a clash broke out on Monday night between two factions of the royal family of Udaipur,leading to stone pelting outside the City Palace.BJP MLA from Rajsamand and newly crowned Maharana of Mewar, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, and his supporters camped outside the City Palace after they were stopped from entering the palace .The situation escalated into a standoff between Vishvaraj Singh Mewar and his cousin Dr Lakshay Raj Singh Mewar, along with their uncle Arvind Singh Mewar, at the gates of the City Palace. Vishvaraj Singh, who is the 77th Maharana of Mewar, was reportedly refused entry into the palace.Following the refusal, the MLA's supporters began throwing stones and attempting to force their way into the palace. Those inside the palace retaliated, further escalating the situation.

Vishvaraj Singh was anointed as the head of the erstwhile royal family in Chittorgarh fort on Monday morning, following the death of his father Mahendra Singh Mewar earlier this month.The coronation ceremony was also clouded by the lingering feud between Mahendra Singh Mewar and his estranged younger brother Arvind Singh Mewar, who issued a legal notice against Vishvaraj's planned visit to the Eklingnath temple of the family deity and the city palace in Udaipur as part of rituals.The row started when Singh, after his coronation ceremony, proceeded to the Eklingnath temple of the family deity and the City Palace in Udaipur as part of rituals, where he was stopped by his cousin and uncle Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar.Both the temple and the palace are under the control of Arvind Singh, who is the chairman and managing trustee of Shree Eklingji Trust in Udaipur. Udaipur District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal says, "Law and order situation is well under control. Talks were going on with palace representatives as well as the society representatives. We have agreed on certain issues, while talks are still going on for certain others."

The new generation of Mewar royals have been involved in a legal dispute over palaces, temples and forts that are now run and managed by nine trusts. All these trusts are handled by the uncle and cousin of Vishvaraj Singh.The dispute goes back to 1984, when the former Maharana of Mewar Bhagwat Singhji made his younger son Arvind Singh the director of the trusts, effectively ousting the elder son Mahendra Singh from the royal properties.
