Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Indian Army has planned to construct a tunnel similar to the Atal Tunnel under the Brahmaputra river in Assam. Based on my discussion I want to say that, the Indian Army has now planned to construct a tunnel under the Brahmaputra river from Misa to Tezpur, so that, the movement of Army vehicles would not be stopped in any situation,” Sarma said. The tunnel would be constructed like the Atal Tunnel’ with a cost of around Rs 4,000-5,000 crore. his is a priority project of the Indian Army. If we get the tunnel construction's engineering plan, then we will also construct two more tunnels,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The CM also said that the Assam government would take some big projects of road connectivity in the state in the coming days, including an elevated corridor in Kaziranga, a bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi and an elevated corridor connecting the Barak valley.
