Voting for the second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir is underway. Eligible voters across 26 constituencies in six districts of the UT are casting their vote on Wednesday.239 candidates, including National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah, are in fray. Voting began at 7.00 in the morning and will conclude at 6pm. Security has been tightened in key constituencies such as Rajouri, which along with Poonch and Reasi has witnessed a surge of terror attacks over the last few years.In this phase, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is contesting from two seats - Ganderbal and Budgam. Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party chief Ravinder Raina is contesting from Nowshera in Rajouri, a seat that he has held for a decade.

As per information, more than 13 thousand polling staff today took positions at 35 hundred polling stations set up across 26 assembly constituencies. the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established 3502 polling stations in these segments including 1056 urban polling stations and 2446 rural polling stations. All the polling stations will have a webcasting facility as part of Election Commission’s efforts to ensure transparency in the polls.The voting for 40 seats in third phase will be held on October 1, while counting of votes will be held on October 8.
