WTC Final: Conway put NZ on top,India manage 217

New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway started cautiously at the start of their innings after India were bundled out for 217 runs in 92.1 overs. New Zealand were 101 for two at stumps as Conway (54 off 153 balls) scored his third successive Test half-century before flicking one off Ishant Sharma to Mohammed Shami before the close of play. New Zealand openers Tom Latham (30) and Devon Conway were slow but very watchful in their start and played with sheer determination to see off the new Dukes ball in Southampton. They faced pacers Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami one after the other till the 14th over and then managed to tackle off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also with ease when he was introduced in the 15th over.

Earlier,New Zealand dismissed Team India for 217 runs on Day 3. India lost the wicket of Kohli, Pant, Rahane and Ashwin in the first session as they scored 211/7 before heading out for Lunch. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 44 and 49 runs respectively as Jamieson took control of the situation from the word go on the third Day. India will be disappointed not to convert a decent start while New Zealand openers will look to carry on the momentum.
