New Zealand beat Pakistan by 60 runs in Champions Trophy opener

New Zealand thrashed defending champions Pakistan by 60 runs in the Champions Trophy opener in Karachi on Wednesday. Batting first after Pakistan won the toss, New Zealand were well served by hundreds from Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118 not out), as they posted 320 for five. There was also a blazing half-century by Glenn Phillips (61 off 39).In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 260 with Babar Azam and Khushdil Shah making 64 and 69, respectively. Salman Agha made a 28-ball 42.

The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy kicked off on Wednesday with an exciting clash between hosts and reigning champions, Pakistan, and the formidable New Zealand team at National Bank Stadium, Karachi. The prestigious tournament is being jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, marking the revival of the Champions Trophy after eight years.
India, will begin their campaign on Thursday against Bangladesh. India won the Champions Trophy twice — first, sharing it with Sri Lanka in 2002, and then defeating England in 2013. This year, eight teams are competing, divided into two groups, in what is often referred to as the “mini-World Cup.”
