Narender Berwal wins bronze in men's Boxing event

India’s Narender Berwal secured a bronze medal at the Asian Games after losing his men’s +90kg semifinal to reigning world champion Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan on Tuesday.Berwal went down 0-5 against Oralbay, earning his second successive Asian Games bronze medal after also finishing third at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
The Indian boxer had earlier won a silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. His latest medal has further added to his growing international record in the heavyweight category.Hailing from Sorkhi village in Haryana’s Hisar district, Berwal comes from a farming family and took up boxing at a young age. He initially trained under coach Devraj Sihag before joining the Indian Army, where he continued his boxing career.Competing in the +92kg category, Berwal has won medals at the Asian Games, Asian Boxing Championships and World Boxing Cup. He has also claimed titles at the South Asian Games and multiple Senior National Boxing Championships.

His early international achievements included a silver medal at the Youth World Cup and bronze at the Youth Asian Championships. He later won gold at the South Asian Games before making his mark on the senior circuit.Berwal won bronze at the 2022 Asian Games, held in 2023, and followed it with another bronze at the 2022 Asian Boxing Championships.
His recent performances include bronze at the 2025 World Boxing Cup in Kazakhstan and silver at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Finals. In 2026, he won silver at the Commonwealth Games and another bronze at the Asian Boxing Championships.With Berwal’s bronze, India’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games has risen to 48, comprising five gold, 21 silver and 22 bronze medals.
