Melbourne Test: India bowls out Australia for 195 runs

In the second cricket test match between India and Australia in Melbourne, hosts were bowled out for 195 on the opening day of the Test with pacer Jasprit Bumrah and off-spinner R Ashwin sharing seven wickets between them. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 4 for 56 and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin returned with figures of 3 for 35. Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne lauded Indian bowlers for coming up with “new ideas”.

India dominated the opening day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. After losing the toss, India bundled up the hosts for 195. Later, debutant Shubman Gill showcased a fearless batting against the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. After settling down in the middle, the youngster attacked the Australian bowlers with a flurry of boundaries. By the end of day’s play, Gill had scored an unbeaten 28 off 38 deliveries, including 5 fours. Despite their bowling excellence, India faced an early blow in the form of Mayank Agarwal’s dismissal. The opener, was sent packing for a duck by Mitchell Starc in the first over. At stumps, India’s score read 36/1 with Gill batting on 28 and Cheteshwar Pujara giving him company on 7. The visitors’ trail by 159 runs with nine wickets in the bag.

A massive debate started on Twitter after the third umpire ruled in Australia captain Tim Paine’s favour and gave him the benefit of doubt on Day 1 of the second India vs Australia Test in Melbourne. “There’s no conclusive evidence to show the bat is on the wrong side of the line, so the bat looks like it could have a bit over the line. My decision is not out,” said Paul Wilson while ruling Tim Paine not out. Australia legend Shane Warne, however, did not agree with the third umpire’s decision and said ‘there was no part of his bat behind the line’.  

Very surprised that Tim Paine survived that run out review ! I had him on his bike & thought there was no part of his bat behind the line ! Should have been out in my opinion
