The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended funding to Cricket Canada for six months over ongoing governance issues, ESPNcricinfo reported. The decision, communicated earlier this week, comes amid administrative controversies and investigations involving the national cricket body. Despite the suspension, Canada’s cricket operations—including national team commitments and high-performance programmes—are expected to continue without disruption.
Cricket Canada relies heavily on ICC funding, which accounted for nearly 63% of its total revenue in 2024, amounting to CAD 3.6 million of the CAD 5.7 million reported. The suspension adds pressure on the organisation, which has faced multiple integrity and administrative challenges over the past year. Notably, Canada’s recent T20 World Cup match against New Zealand is under investigation by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit, and a leaked recording alleged former board members pressured player selection and attempted to influence matches. The organisation has also grappled with leadership instability.
The ICC has not issued an official statement on the funding suspension, and Cricket Canada has yet to respond publicly.
