EURO CUP: Berlin wall collapse, England to face Ukraine in QF

England broke through strong Berlin wall to enter the Quarter finals. They beat their arch rival Germany 2-0 in the pre-quarter finals and put the Germans out of title race. Ukraine also qualified for Quarterfinals with hard fought 2-1 win over Sweden in extra time.

Both Germany and England began the game on conscious note. The rivals made forays several times but none of them could finish on the target. The first half ends goalless. German players paced their attacks in the second half seeking to get lead. But it was English side who got the lead in 75th minute in a swift passing move by Grealish. Then Sterling Raheem slides in the pass from Luke Shaw into goal. Grealish provided another cross from the left to English Captain Harry Kane in 86th minute. And Kane’s stooping header struck second goal for his team. So, Germany’s hope to remain in race for Euro title dashed too early. It is England’s first knock out win inside the regular time in the European Championships history.

In the last match of Rounds 16, Ukraine registered 2-1 win over Sweden.  The Ukrainians took the lead in 27th minute when Zinchenko struck the rival’s goal post. But their lead could not last long enough. Sweden’s Emil Forsberg put his team on level in 43rd minute. After the break, both teams tried their best to get the winning goal but without success. And the game went into the extra-time. Artem Dovbyk finally found the target just before the end of the time to give Ukraine a 2-1 win.

The final line-up for Quarterfinal clashes is now set in. The first match of Rounds 8 is Spain vs Switzerland on 2nd July. Belgium will encounter Italy on 3rd July. Same day, Denmark will clash with Czech Republic. And England will take on Ukraine in the last quarterfinal match on 4th July. So…. The football lovers till then wait for another round breathtaking thrills of the Euro cup.
