Ahmedabad to host Commonwealth Games 2030

Ahmedabad has officially been ratified as the host of the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030—a landmark moment for the Commonwealth Sport Movement. Delegates from 74 member nations approved India’s bid at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, confirming that the world’s most populous nation will stage the historic edition.At the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland was delighted to support the awarding of hosting rights for the 2030 Games to the city of Amdavad, India.

India presented a strong vision for the Games, centred in Amdavad and building on the foundation set by Glasgow 2026. Moments after the announcement, 20 Garba dancers and 30 dhol drummers surprised delegates with a vibrant cultural performance, offering a glimpse of the heritage and pride Gujarat will showcase in 2030. The Garba performers, drawn from Glasgow’s Indian community and others across the Commonwealth, symbolised unity as the Movement transitions from Glasgow 2026 to the centenary celebration.
The Commonwealth Games began in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada. At the most recent edition in 2022, hosted in Birmingham, Australia topped the medal table, followed by England, Canada, India and New Zealand.
