Punjab:BJP to contest 65 seats, PLC 37, Dhindsa group15 seats

Captain Amarinder Singh has finalised seat sharing agreement with the BJP for the upcoming Punjab polls. In the 117 member Assembly, Captain's Punjab Lok Congress will contest on 35 seats, BJP on 65 seats while Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) will field its candidates on 15 seats. The seat-sharing pact was announced at a news conference in Delhi by Captain Singh and BJP chief JP Nadda and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) chief Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. Praising Punjab as a "leader", especially in defence and food security of the country, Nadda said, "Today Punjab needs special attention, it needs a double engine government and a better coordination between the centre and the state."  Nadda promised the voters that the NDA government, if elected, will bring stability and security in Punjab. This election is for stability and safety. Our motto is to bring back Punjab on track," he said.

Captain Singh said that that we have given a good set of candidates with a clear focus on winnability while ensuring due representation across regions and various sections of the society. Of the 37 seats in his share, 26 are from the Malwa region of the state with which Captain Singh has had strong family ties and used to be part of the erstwhile royal estate of Patiala.Earlier, home minister Amit Shah also attended the meeting.
