In Tokyo Olympics, two Indians- Neeraj Chopra and Bajrang Punia on Saturday gave the country two medals. Neeraj Chopra created history by becoming the second Indian to win an individual gold medal in Olympics after shooter Abhinav Bindra. The 23-year-old on Saturday registered a best attempt of 87.58m to finish ahead of Czech Republic duo of Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely. With his historic effort, he also took India's medal haul to seven in the ongoing Games - the country's highest ever, beating the tally of six medals won at the London Games in 2012.The Indian bettered his performance in the second attempt with an 87.58m throw which kept him in the lead. Neeraj's third attempt was 76.79m. PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate Neeraj Chopra after he became the second Indian to bag an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
The Haryana government announced a cash reward Neeraj Chopra for winning India's first Olympic gold medal in athletics. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a cash reward of Rs 6 crore to Chopra for winning the medal in men's javelin throw in the Olympics.
India Golfer Aditi Ashok narrowly missed out a medal in the women's individual stroke play event, finishing fourth position at the Tokyo Olympics The 23-year-old was in contention for a medal right until the end but finished a shot behind Japan's Mone Inami and Lydia Ko of New Zealand, respectively.The Indian also finished only two shots behind gold medallist Nelly Korda (USA). Currently ranked 200th in the world, Aditi Ashok is among some big names of Indian sport.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal after defeating Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan in the men's freestyle 65kg category. Bajrang won the bout 8-0 in a match where the Indian dominated from the word go. Former Asian Games gold medallist Bajrang on Saturday dominated the bout from start to finish, which ended in a 8-0 scoreline in favour of the Indian 27-year-old. Bajrang won by technical superiority. Punia started off on an attacking note in the last three minutes and got two more points with a take down to take a 4-0 lead. The India then gave no chance to the wrester from Kazakhstan by scoring four more points to two more take downs. Prime minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Bajrang Punia.

Punia became the sixth Indian wrestler to finish on the Olympic podium after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Kumar Dahiya.
