Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is preparing with full strength to host the 2036 Olympic Games, highlighting the country’s growing experience in organising major international sporting events over the past decade.Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 72nd National Volleyball Championship through video conference, the Prime Minister noted that India has successfully hosted more than 20 major global sporting events in recent years. These include the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Hockey World Cup and several high-profile international chess tournaments held across various cities.
“The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be held in India. India is preparing with full strength to host the 2036 Olympics,” Modi said.

The National Volleyball Championship, being held from January 4 to January 11, has drawn participation from over 1,000 players representing 58 teams from across the country. The competition is expected to feature a high level of performance, sportsmanship and emerging talent in Indian volleyball.The Prime Minister also underlined the significance of hosting the national-level tournament in Varanasi, saying it reflects the increasing focus on strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting athletic development in the city. He added that such events further enhance Varanasi’s profile as a venue for major national gatherings, in line with its expanding role in hosting important cultural and sporting initiatives.
