Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said his government and party are "ready to do anything" for the people for Delhi but won't allow the central government "to take away the people's power". Addressing a protest rally in Delhi against the NCT Amendment bill 202, Kejriwal said, we won't also let the power of the people of Delhi to be taken away. The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to give more powers to Delhi lieutenant-governor (L-G), was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The bill has raised the fresh round of tussle between the Centre and te Delhi government. Attacking the Centre, Arvind Kejriwal said if it was of the view that Delhi should be governed by the LG, why were assembly elections held in the national capital."The BJP has not been able to win elections in Delhi so that want to govern it by deceit. They are trying to end the rule of people. They (Centre) have brought this Bill to end the good work that we have been doing in the education sector," Arvind Kejriwal alleged. On the other hand, the BJP has argued that the Bill will ensure better coordination between the Centre and the Delhi government, and lead to speedy development in the national capital.
