The United States and Iran have "never been closer" to a deal on ending the war in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday.Araghchi further said that if the final stage of negotiations is completed, the agreement would be signed remotely by both sides and then formally announced. "Pending its finalisation, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content," he added, after purported details of the accord were published by Iranian media. "In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course," Araghchi added. Expectations have grown in recent days that the two sides are on the verge of an accord, even if tensions and sticking points remain. Araghchi said Iran’s “pressure” over the Strait of Hormuz will remain in place indefinitely and that Iranian armed forces will intervene whenever necessary. Araghchi added that under international law, imposing transit tolls on the Strait of Hormuz is not possible, but said that Iran is taking “service fees” and that the matter is part of ongoing negotiations, IRGC affiliated Tasnim reported.
The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content.

;US President Donald Trump later shared a screenshot of Araghchi's X post on Truth Social. Trump had earlier lashed out at the leaks in Iranian media, saying on Truth Social "they have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing".
Iranian state media published details of what it called a 14-point draft understanding with the United States, including a ceasefire on all fronts, lifting of the naval blockade and oil sanctions, release of $24 billion in blocked funds, and future talks limited to nuclear and sanctions issues while excluding Iran’s missile program and support for proxy groups.
